Water levels rising

BC River Forecast Centre is maintaining a High Streamflow Advisory for the South Interior including the Okanagan

The Duteau Creek water reservoirs are nearing the full level and are anticipated to start spilling very early next week.

Persons living or working near creeks and streams should be aware that stream water levels may rise quickly during this time and should exercise caution around the fast moving water.

Meanwhile, the BC River Forecast Centre is maintaining a High Streamflow Advisory for the South Interior including the Okanagan – small tributary river systems in the Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton and surrounding areas.

Streams have been responding to this rapid snowmelt, with many smaller streams in the South Interior seeing a 150-300 per cent increase in flow over the past five days. Flows in many smaller rivers are near or above record levels for this time of year, including Coldstream Creek (above municipal intake) and Salmon River near Falkland.
