The sun may be shining now, but Vernon could see upwards of 20 millimetres of rain tonight.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Central and North Okanagan.
“A strong upper low, which is currently northwest of Vancouver Island, will move into the southern B.C. Interior this afternoon then slowly drift eastward tonight and Friday,” the statement reads.
Heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and tonight with highly variable rainfall across the regions.
“Localized rainfall amounts upwards of 20 mm in a short period are possible in some areas.”
The forecast for Vernon today calls for a high of 25 with showers or a few thunderstorms this afternoon. Heavy rain with a thundershowers are expected overnight.
Friday calls for clouds with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm and a high of 18.
Saturday also has a 60 per cent chance of showers, but a high of 25. By Sunday a mix of sun and cloud is expected with a high of 26.
