The pedestrian that was fatally struck by a vehicle near Enderby on Canada Day has been identified as a much loved member of the Splatsin First Nation.
In a Facebook post, Miranda Kimbasket identifies the victim as Harry Joesph Jones Jr., a well-known member of the community.
Jones was killed while crossing Highway 97 A in an incident that closed the highway for nearly six hours Saturday.
“Harry touched the hearts of many and will be dearly missed by all,” Kimbasket wrote.
A wake for Jones will be held at the Splatsin Community Centre at 5 p.m. Friday, July 7. There will be a display table available to showcase all of Jones’ artwork, and anyone who has any of his artwork is encouraged to bring it with them.
Donations for the family are being accepted and are “greatly appreciated.”

On Tuesday the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the pedestrian who died was a 62-year-old Enderby man, but did not officially release his identity.
The vehicle incident took place near the intersection of Highway 97A and Canyon Road around 12 p.m., Saturday.
The investigation suggests the vehicle was travelling north on the highway and struck Jones in the marked crosswalk between the Quilakwa gas station and the Enderby Flea Market.
“The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer.
The incident remains under investigation.
