The early arrival of Old Man Winter has the City of Vernon scrambling.
Plans for infrastructure projects are being revised because of the cold temperatures and snow on the ground.
“We will be making the 30th Street project ready for winter by completing some pipe tie-ins and getting some temporary hard surface on the road before construction finishes for the season and the road is opened up,” said Mark Dowhaniuk, manager of infrastructure management.
“This project was planned to be finished next spring and the early winter means there will a few more pieces of work to complete.”
It’s also possible the sidewalk repair program may have to be put on hold until next spring.
“That is unless it gets warm and the snow leaves,” said Shirley Koenig, director of operation services.
Beyond the 30th Street road upgrades, most of the city’s other infrastructure projects are wrapped up for 2017.
“The city is doing some drainage work near Okanagan Avenue and some directional drilling for the Okanagan Landing sewer project mostly off the road so work will continue even with the cold,” said Dowhaniuk.
