Witnesses sought in Lumby break-in

Lumby RCMP are asking for the public’s help in solving an apparent smash and grab at a village business.

Lumby RCMP are asking for the public’s help in solving an apparent smash and grab at a village business.

The Fields store in the 1900 block of Vernon Street was targetted on Sunday evening.

“It appears the suspect or suspects smashed the front glass window and grabbed some headphones,” said Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call the Lumby detachment at 547-2151, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Tips can also be left on the North Okanagan-Shuswap Crime Stoppers’ website, www.nokscrimestoppers.com.

Fight night

Proce said it’s rare for his officers to have to respond to fights at or near local licensed premises in the village, but such an event happened at 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officers responded to a fight on Vernon Street that was attracting a large group.

“Two males were both bleeding from the head by the time police arrived,” said Proce. “They had apparently carried an argument from the bar outside onto the street and became involved in a consensual fight.”

One man was transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital via ambulance. Neither party wished criminal charges but both were warned by police.  The crowd was dispersed and the scene cleared.
