UPDATE: 8:30 a.m.

Kelowna RCMP say a woman discovered beneath the William R. Bennett Bridge, by boaters, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries Wednesday evening, but will be OK.

On July 5, 2017 at 7:21 p.m., RCMP were called to assist emergency medical crews who responded to a report of a severely injured, possibly deceased woman, seen laying beneath the span of the bridge.

“A sail boat operator spotted the woman’s motionless body from approximately 50 metres from the shoreline and dialled 911,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found the woman to be conscious and breathing, however verbally unresponsive.”

O’Donaghey says medical crews at the scene suspected that the woman may have sustained serious lower body injuries.

She was transported in the fire department rescue boat to shore where she was then rushed to hospital by paramedics.

“RCMP investigators have reason to believe that the woman may have intentionally jumped from the bridge span and had been laying for more than 35 minutes injured,” says O’Donaghey.

“RCMP have since positively identified the woman as a 30-year-old Kelowna woman. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening in nature.”
