A new reserve is being established to possibly one day replace the 83-year-old Women’s Institute hall in Coldstream.

Funds for restoration, expansion or replacement are being collected for the aging facility. The district will set aside funds and the community can also contribute to the reserve.

Agricultural interest

Coldstream is eyeing a seat at the regional agricultural committee.

The district has nominated Coun. Richard Enns to be considered for one of three municipal representatives to the Regional District of North Okanagan regional agricultural advisory committee.

“There had been suggestions about an agricultural committee here,” said Mayor Jim Garlick.

While a Coldstream-centred committee may not be necessary now, Enns says, it may be looked at down the road.

“It could be a very useful tool in the future,” said Enns, suggesting quarterly meetings.

Some of the issues in the community include noise and impacts between agricultural and urban areas.

Coldstream is also looking at obtaining a grant to help the district deal with such issues.

“Seeing as how 55 per cent of our community is agricultural,” said Garlick.
