Work is under way on Greater Vernon’s newest recreation amenity.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday to signify the start of construction of a $7.5 million running track and two sports fields next to Okanagan College.
“It will really help the college and the community,” said Jim Garlick, Coldstream mayor, adding that there will be economic benefits as the facility will be able to host large sports events.
Earth works have began and the facility will take physical shape in the spring.
It’s anticipated the sports complex will be completed by November 2014.
