Application for a permit amendment under the provisions of the Environmental Management Act

We, Vegpro International Inc. (Salade Etcetera! Inc.) intend to submit this application to the Director to authorize the discharge of effluent under permit 109356 from a leaf vegetable packing facility which is located at 10029 Ricardo Road, Coldstream, BC, within the District of Coldstream (Lot 244, ODYD, Plan KAP 1216, T6, DL 76 79 80 & 86, Section 16, 20 & 21) and which washes, sorts and packages product for wholesale and retail distribution. The source of the discharge is vegetable rinsing water mixed with some sanitizing water, and is treated through a screen and treatment ponds before release to a rapid infiltration basin. The permit was first issued on December 5th, 2018 and was last amended on November 3rd, 2020. Changes are being requested to the permit, including:
- Amending the discharge rate from 320 m3/d to 18,000 m3/month to accommodate a syphon flush rate which can occur every few days depending on the water level in the treatment ponds.
- Replacing “filter” with “screen” and “C33 sand” with “appropriate sand”, and including “dechlorination” and “a weir” to align permit wording with site operations.
