February 2, 1932 - August 30, 2019
Adel (Gundi) Reiter passed away in Calgary after a seven month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Wulka (Volhynia area of Eastern Europe) to Martha and Daniel Friedenberger. German was her first language, but she could also speak Polish, Ukrainian and Russian. Adel immigrated to Canada with her family in 1949. She married Alois (Al) Reiter in 1955 and together they owned Reiter Construction in Edmonton for 35 years. They retired to the Okanagan in 1990. Adel and Al were active members of the Edelweiss Society in Vernon. Adel utilized her creative talents by crocheting doll clothes for the Vernon Hospital Auxiliary. While her favourite holiday destination was Hawaii, she also enjoyed travelling to Germany, Austria, Mexico, Las Vegas and Scottsdale. Adel moved to Calgary in 2014 to be closer to family. She was an outstanding cook who loved preparing elaborate Sunday dinners. She was also a voracious reader. Adel will be missed by her children Robert Reiter (Dana) and Dr. Betty Reiter (Patrick Hartigan); brothers Willi (Gisela) and Helmut Friedenberger; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Adel was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Al Reiter, in 2003; brothers Richard, Adolf and Alfred Friedenberger; brother-in-law John Reiter (survived by his wife Inge); sisters-in-law Rosi Mayr, Marianne Schwarz and Myrna Friedenberger; and nephews Patrick Reiter, Werner Mayr and Jarrad Friedenberger.
At Adel's request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Adel's memory to the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Condolences may be forwarded to www.edenbrookcemetery.ca.
