Agnes Broadfoot passed away at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital October 22, 2012 and her sister Doris Brisbin on January 18, 2013 at the Vernon Hospice, both after well lived lives.

Doris was born September 11, 1920 in Silverton Manitoba and was the big sister to Agnes, Margaret and Ruth on the family farm. A dutiful daughter of Edward and Dorthea Broadfoot, Doris enlisted on July 8, 1942 serving with the Canadian Army during World War II and after settled in the Lower Mainland where she lived with her husband Joe and children Pat and Jo-Ellen on a farm in Pitt Meadows.

Agnes was born March 19, 1922 in Rossburn Manitoba and trained as a nurse. An adventurous spirit, Agnes served in the Canadian Air Force, travelling extensively and retiring with the rank of Captain in 1968.

In 1973 Doris, Joe and Agnes moved to a ranch, north of Falkland. Doris and Agnes had the time of their lives living in China Valley and got back to their roots looking after cattle, chickens and pigs, gardening, making butter and yogurt, picking wild mushrooms and strawberries, and cooking for hordes of people.

After selling the ranch Doris moved to Alberta to live with her sister Ruth and Agnes to Ontario. Doris moved to Vernon in 1984 to be close to her daughter Jo-Ellen and her family; Agnes joined Doris in Vernon in 1989.

Doris and Agnes lived together until their deaths. There were very active in their later years hiking, bird watching, gardening and traveling the world. Doris was devoted to her children and grandchildren and Agnes to her nieces and nephews and their children. Agnes was a generous patron of nature charities and public television.

They will be sadly missed by their sisters Ruth and Margaret and their families, Doris’s son Pat (Dani) Brisbin, daughter Jo-Ellen (Wayne) Illerbrun, Doris’s grandchildren Nathan (Cara) Illerbrun, Zachary, Aaron and James Brisbin, Caleigh (Tom) Hall, Mitchell (Jana) Illerbrun, and one great granddaughter Nova Illerbrun.
