Alan W.H. (Al) Hickman

It is with great sadness we announce the

passing of a loving husband, wonderful father and best friend. Above anything else Al loved his family; Andrea his wife, Robert and Russell his twin sons, and Erin his beautiful little princess. Also survived by his father and mother-in-law; John and Edel Venus, brother and sister-in-law Mike and Christine Venus, niece Samantha Venus and brother-in-law John Sargent. Al was predeceased by his mother and father Grace and Harry Hickman and his sister Janice. Al was very proud of his 30 year police career with the Saanich police

Dept, retiring in 1997 at the rank of Detective Inspector. He loved to tell his kids and friends his many “police stories”. He went on to become a private investigator in the Okanagan. Sports were a huge part of Al’s life. He played rugby, soccer, lacrosse and slo-pitch. After his playing days he went on to coaching his kids in soccer and basketball, the Victoria Selects, Thibault Logging and Jock’s Blasting slo-pitch teams. All those who knew Al in Victoria and Vernon will remember his life long dedication to helping others. Those in need, no matter the circumstances, came to him for advice and encouragement. He was an active member of the Army and Navy Unit # 5 serving in many executive positions and as Sgt. At Arms for the past five years.
