Albert Bootsma went to be with his Lord on December 31st, 2004. God blessed Albert’s life with many gracious gifts, the most precious being his wife Ann, to whom he was married 56 years. Other gifts included his nine children, 20 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Albert was born in the Netherlands on July 8, 1922. He met Ann after the 2nd World War and they married in 1948. In 1957 they, along with 5 children, immigrated to Canada, and settled in Vancouver. Albert worked hard in his newly adopted country and started his own janitorial business and later worked 15 years for First Baptist Church of Vancouver as custodian before retiring. In 1992 he and Ann moved to Vernon. Albert had a passionate desire for doing Christ’s work and served him and his church by leading youth groups and Bible studies, being an elder, visiting the elderly, sick and lonely, and doing other acts of service. Perhaps his greatest talent, however, was his musical voice. He sang in many choirs and often sang solos. His faith, sense of humour, and encouraging attitude enriched the lives of many.
Albert will be missed by his wife Ann, along with his children John (Linda), Rita (Blake), Rudy (Allison), Margaretha (Paul), Tina (Doyle), Harold (Valori), Caroline (Roy), Terry (Melanie), David (Shari), his grandchildren, church family and many friends.
A celebration of his life took place on Thursday January 6. Condolences can be emailed to the family at firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to 3702-13 St., Vernon, V1T 3T4. In lieu of flowers please send a contribution to the Red Cross for the Tsunami Disaster Relief.
