Albert Joseph Durrer

Apr 20, 1925 – Jun 9, 2018
Albert has driven his tractor to Heaven.

Albert was born in France to a Swiss family who later emigrated from Switzerland to Canada in 1937. And so began his many years of farming in the Lower Mainland and later in the Okanagan.

Albert worked for Mrs. Harris at the Haney Hammond Motor Freight Company during his younger years but in 1970 he retired to a dairy farm in Armstrong. Later he farmed in Paxton Valley, Falkland before moving to a small farm in Armstrong where he finally retired from farming at the age of 88.

Albert was always ready to help people, haul something or get a good bargain at the auction sale. He had three uncanny abilities in life: to know the time without wearing a watch; to find his way in a city even if he had never been there before; and to find a friend in a stranger. He taught us how to work hard, to keep your word, to always remember your manners and to always do the best you can.

Albert will be very missed by his daughter, Carole and granddaughter, Laurelee, of Armstrong. He leaves behind one son, Ken of Vancouver, one sister, Margaret of Mission and one sister-in-law, Mary of Armstrong, and a special friend in his niece Benita of Mission.

Albert was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Frieda and his four brothers: John, Ernest, Otto and Marcel. Albert was also predeceased by the family dog, Daisy, on June 6th so he has good company over the Rainbow Bridge because his life wasn’t complete without a good dog.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff of the Haugen Medical Centre and Vernon Jubilee Hospital as well as staff at the North Okanagan Hospice House and the paramedical staff of the BC Ambulance Service who have assisted with Albert’s medical care over the past three years: you are the best! Special thanks to Albert’s faithful friend Al for the many visits…and all the donuts.

There is no funeral service by request. Albert will be cremated and interred in the family plot in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.MyAlternatives.ca.
