Albert McConkey

Albert McConkey

Albert James “Ab” McConkey passed away on November 7, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Harold McConkey, and he will be sadly missed and remembered by his mother, Florence McConkey; his wife of fifty years, Maureen; his children, Dave (Janet), Karyn (Doug) Knowlan of Vernon, Don (Cathy) of Calgary and Valerie (Neil Babiy) of Salmon Arm. His nine Grandchildren; Austin, Ashley,

Taylor, Liam, Kelsee, Colin, Megan, Cailie and Jacob will miss their “Pa-pa” as will his Great-grandson, Jordie. He will also be missed by his brother, two sisters, nieces and nephews and other extended family members including his best pal, Murphy. Ab worked hard as the owner of McConkey Contracting and relaxed over the years by fishing, camping, traveling and reading (not

necessarily all at the same time.) He enjoyed traveling throughout BC and had an interest in BC history, especially as regards the Gang Ranch. His last trip was with his son Don when they traveled back to Ontario to look up some family history, and then down to New York and Boston. He spoke about this trip often and it was one of his favorite recent memories. We will remember his distinctive laugh, his smile when he was with his grandchildren, and the fun we had sitting around at family dinners BS-ing about the family trips we had taken. Until recently he had enjoyed puttering around in his workshop, and right up until he went in to Hospice House he was working to modify his scooter.

Thank-you to his Oncologists in Kelowna and to everyone at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic, as well as everybody at Hospice House for making his final days as

comfortable as possible. You are all special people who made a tough situation

a little easier for our family to handle and we can’t thank you enough.

Honoring Ab’s wishes there will be no public funeral service held and in lieu of flowers please give a donation in his name to the North Okanagan Hospice

Society, 3506-27th Ave, Vernon, BC, V1T 1S4. Cremation arrangements

are in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services 250-558-0866.
