Alexander Neil Skelton
A Good and Moral Man Left Us Today
Alexander Neil Skelton died at his home in Vernon, BC on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014.
Alex was born on December 17th, 1927 in Saskatoon, SK, the eldest of 4. He spent his early years on the prairies and had many wonderful childhood memories. When he was 14, the family moved and made BC their home. In 1951 he married the love of his life and they started their own beautiful life together.
Alex was an entrepeneur, a businessman, a farmer, a carpenter, an avid reader, and a music lover.
He was a man with a social conscience and valued the well being of the little guy. His political views were smart and informed and he loved a good discussion. He was able to influence many a grandchild to the correct way of thinking.
Alex loved lamb cooked just right, dancing with Patricia, a good crop in a field on a sunny day, Scotch whiskey, and marshmallow cookies, not necessarily in that order.
Most of all he loved his family and cared deeply about their happiness, passions and accomplishments. He was a wonderful husband, an adored father and father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a much loved brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
Alex will be forever remembered and always loved by his best friend and wife of 63 years, Patricia, along with their five children: Norm (Debby), Susan (Don), Ray (Carol), Kathy (Ken), Sheila (Ernie), 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, brother Gordon (Erica), sister Joan, brother-in-law Craig (Donna), sister-in-law Arlene (Herb), numerous nieces and nephews and dearest friend Adrian.
Alex was predeceased by infant son Douglas, his parents, Nigel and Margaret Skelton, his sister Dorothy, and nephew Glen Skelton.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on September 20, 2014 from 1:00 to 8:00 at Alex and Pat’s place on Swan Lake in Vernon (6941 Old Kamloops Road).
Those who wish may make a donation in memory of Alex to the Lung Association or the NDP.
