Alfred “Al” Burton Thomas passed away suddenly at Royal Columbian Hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the age of 66 years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Darlene Thomas; Mother, Hazel; Father, Al; and sister, Bernie.
He will be sadly missed by his Son, Brad Thomas; daughter, Niki Thomas (David), granddaughters, Madyson and Olivia; Sister, Pat (Dick) Wilson; extended family and many friends.
Al grew up in various towns as a young boy, throughout Canada and Germany, as an Army Brat. He grew up with a love of sports and became a competitive athlete in many, especially hockey and basketball. However, it was at a Grey Cup Party in 1957 that led him to a new love, his wife Darlene. They dated many years and married in 1965. They worked, played, laughed and had their two children in Edmonton. The milder winters brought Al and his family to Vernon in 1979. Al was known in the community as a Business man in the auto industry, a strong supporter of local junior hockey and an avid skier at the local slopes. After the passing of his wife, Darlene, in 1999, he travelled to many wonderful places – Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and settled in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a few years. Sadly, his heart never healed after the loss of wife, Darlene, and it is the broken heart that has now united them once again.
Friends and Family are welcome to attend a Memorial Service for Al at the Schubert Centre, Saturday, November 22, 2008, from 1-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
