ALICE ALEXANDRIA BROWN, long time resident of Armstrong, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, in Pleasant Valley Manor, aged 92 years. Born Thursday, June 28, 1910, in Neilburg, Saskatchewan, Alice was the youngest of seven children of Christopher Dickinson and Elizabeth (Harrison). Her brothers Tom, Bill, Joseph, and Fred and sisters Margaret, & Lizzy Hannah predeceased her. The family members were accomplished musicians: they played for prairie dances and other social gatherings. Alice was married November 25, 1931 to William John Brown of Neilburg (East Manitou), Saskatchewan. The couple’s parents had emigrated from England and set up homesteads in the area. Alice and William carried on in the family tradition. They had their son and daughter on the homestead. In 1944 they moved to Armstrong, where they farmed and raised prize Holstein cattle. The Browns were renowned for their hospitality. Alice was a wonderful cook turning out scrumptious meals and elaborate teas for all who ‘dropped in’. She was a ‘Martha Stewart’ in the kitchen. We all remember her perfect chocolate chip cookies, scones, etc. Alice devoted her life to caring for people – her family and friends. She was a member of the St. James Club and annually produced 40-50 pies for the Anglican Church for the I.P.E. She moved to the Seniors Complex in Enderby in 1987, and then to the Armstrong Pleasant Valley Manor in 1999. Her husband Bill predeceased Alice in 1967. She is survived by: her son Albert (Lillian) Brown and daughter Shirley (Barry) Gerlib, six grandchildren Dianne (Chris) Strohm, Lynette (Rod) Gilmer, Doug (Shannon) Brown, Vance (Shannon) Gerlib, Corrie Gerlib, Blair Gerlib, and eight great-grandchildren. Service of remembrance will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at St. James Anglican Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Cory Rundell officiating. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Social Club of Pleasant Valley Manor.
