Feb 13, 1935 - Nov 24, 2017
We regret the sudden passing of Alice (Joan) Danyluk in the early morning of Friday, November 24, 2017 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.  Joan passed peacefully surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born February 13, 1935 in the booming interior city of Nelson to Loretta and Gus Ryan. In her misfortune, her mother passed soon after Joan's birth.  She was thankfully adopted as the youngest child of her mother's best friend, Mary Jarbeau.   She began her schooling at St. Joseph's Parish School and went on to attend Notre Dame College. Joan entered nurses training at St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Victoria in 1954.

She graduated as an RN in 1957 and was chosen as valedictorian by her classmates. She also received the NON NOBIS SOLUM (not for ourselves alone) award for that year.  Using her RN and obtaining a diploma in public health nursing from UBC, Joan went on to work in the Denver-Nakusp Health Region headquartered in Nelson.

After marrying her husband, Dan, in 1960, she left nursing to raise her family. The family lived in various cities across the country to support Dan in his position with CP Rail.  Dan and Joan retired to Vernon in 1984.

Joan's youthful passions were in ballet and figure skating.  She was an avid reader, mother and grandmother who enjoyed a good glass of red wine, conversation with family and friends and relaxing at the Mara Lake family cabin that she and Dan have enjoyed since 1965.  Joan was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League.

Joan is survived by a large extended family that includes: her husband, Dan, of 57 years; her sons: John (Angela) from Dallas Texas, Tom from Vernon, Greg (Carla) from Kamloops; and her daughter Michelle from Calgary.  Joan is also survived by five grandchildren: Tasha, Mara, Zak, Chantal, and Alexa.

Prayers for Joan will be recited at St. James Catholic Church (2607-27th Street Vernon) at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 followed on Thursday, November 30, 2017 by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in the same location.  Father Peter Nguyen, Celebrant. The reception will follow in the St. James Parish Centre.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals in the ICU of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. H Yacyshyn, Dr. D Roux, and Dr. H Raupach for their excellent care of Joan over the years.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  Those who wish to make memorial contributions in memory of Joan may do so to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Light-A-Bulb Campaign, 2101-32nd Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2.

Arrangements have been entrusted to PLEASANT VALLEY DIGNITY FUNERAL HOME, 4303 P.V. Road, Vernon, B.C. V1T 4M4  Phone: (250) 542-4333.
