It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Alida (Ada) Smit of Vernon, on May 26, 2007 in Victoria. She is lovingly remembered by her family John and Cindy, Nick and Lisa, Mira, and grandsons Dane, Isaac and Charlie, as well as her extended family and friends. After immigrating to Canada from the Netherlands in 1957 she resided in Edmonton, Alberta for thirty-two years. After the death of her husband, she retired to Vernon where she resided for the past seventeen years. Ada maintained an active life of world travel, competitive swimming, hiking and volunteering. She was a kind, loving, generous and thoughtful soul who touched many lives. Throughout the years, Ada spent a lot of time at her sewing machine with her cats at her side. Friends and family were frequent recipients of her beautiful quilts and crafts. These lovingly created gifts will provide memories that will be cherished forever.
A celebration of Ada’s life will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 606 Decosmos Road, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, BC Lung
Association, or the Vernon Jubilee Foundation.
Ada’s family and friends would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for all of the
compassionate care provided to her by the doctors and staff at both the Vernon Jubilee, and Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
