THOMPSON, Allen William
We regret to announce the death in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013 of Al Thompson at the age of 64 years.
Al was born on January 27th, 1949 to Bill and Denise Thompson in Kimberly, B.C. He was raised in Emo, Ontario where he nurtured his great love of the outdoors. At age 13 he worked as a guide in a fishing camp. Al won a trip out west with the Sea Cadets to sail on a sailing ship at the age of 14. He moved to Fort St. John in 1965 with his mother and step-father, Elwood Marshall, and younger brother Ron. Al became a surveyor and worked in the North Peace area for many years. In June of 1999 he moved to Vernon to be with the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Shelly LaBelle. Together they operated an assisted care home where Shelly’s expertise as an RN and Al’s handyman, gardening , cooking skills and wonderful wit and sense of humor provided a loving and comfortable home for many. In 2011 they retired and moved to Cherryville where Al could be closer to his beloved outdoors.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Elwood and Denise Marshall. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly; daughter, Nicole: son Tyler; two step-daughters, Dahnis (Darryl) and their grandson, Cameron; Enaunda; brother Ron (Ann), nephew, Steve (Lori) and great-nieces, Andrea and Kristie; nephew, David (Jess) and great-nephews, Dean and Ben; nephew, Max (Brenna), and great-nephews Kade and Kole; and nephew, Mark.
A Funeral Service will be held on January 7th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Deacon Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the Lumby Cemetery.
