With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Alliss Marryion Miller (nee Bailey) on February 23, 2013 at Polson Residential Care Unit, Vernon, B.C. She was 88 years old. Alliss was born in Kelowna to James and Emily Bailey (nee McDougall). As a great-great-grandmother, Alliss influenced five generations of her family.

Mom will be ever so missed by her children: John Miller (Phyllis Bonneau), Barbara Marchand (Earl Chesney), Shirley Louis (Robert Louis), Richard Miller, Edward Miller (Laura Marchand), Bob Poitras and Jody Poitras. Alliss was predeceased by her sons, Pat (1956) and David (1963).

Mom, the third oldest of seven kids was raised in Kelowna and Winfield. She lived and worked in Winfield, Hedley, Keremeos, Kamloops, Surrey, Lumby, and Vernon. She worked in orchards, tomato fields, Panco Poultry, packing houses, and in restaurants waiting tables. She always had a dishcloth over her shoulder and never failed to have preserves stored away. As a family provider, there was always an extra setting at the table for any one of these five generations or friends that might drop in. In one way or another, Mom touched every life that was in her path, and in her own way, Mom has become one of the most valuable teachers we could ever hope for…….even if she didn’t know it.

The memorial service will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Monday, March 4th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Normandeau officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Alliss may do so to the Polson Extended Care Unit, 2101-32nd Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2.
