We regret to announce the passing of Alma Cantafio at Hospice House on June 18, 2010. Her six month battle with Lung Cancer ended peacefully with her family by her side.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Nevia Giorio and brother Alfred.
She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Ralph, daughter Janice (Alan) Renaud, Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, son, John (Susan) Cantafio, Calgary, brother Jim (Katherine) Giorio, Vernon. Five grandchildren: Matthew and Jodi Cantafio and Tyler, Lisa, Tracy Renaud. Nieces Jenna and Cameron Giorio, nephews Shane, Stephan, Josh, Jayson Giorio and extended family members.
She will also be sadly missed by her many friends that were near and dear to her heart. Thank you from all of us to those that visited and brought happiness, understanding and nourishment to Hospice House.
Alma will be sadly missed for her love of painting, paper tole, her keen eye for colour and design and her quick wit.
She was a noted translator of the Italian language and assisted the Vernon Museum, Caetani House and the City of Vernon for the World Cup Cross Country Races held at Silver Star in 1991/92.
Many thanks to all the doctors and nurses and staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and Kelowna General and Kelowna Cancer Centre, also to the gentle and caring staff and volunteers at Hospice House.
Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 7th at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 104-3402-27 Ave., Vernon, BC V1T 1S1 or to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4 in memory of Alma Cantafio.
