Alvie Louise Pope Christie

June 28, 1947 – September 12, 2022
Our beautiful wife, mother and grandmother, Louise Pope Christie passed away peacefully on September 12th, 2022 in the loving arms of her family, ending her determined battle with dementia. She fought to the very end to be independent, dignified, and loving. Thankfully, like her mother Alvie, and father Les, she never lost her innate sense of humour.
She loved a good meal right up until the end and regularly shared a knowing wink and smile. Louise leaves behind Paul, her loving husband and friend, children Jennifer (Casey), Leigh (Kara), Jarret (Paris) and grandchildren, Inez, Willow and Meadow. Her girlfriends Sandy (Sam) Ross, Bev (Snakey) Jakeman, and Margaret Scarr lifted Louise and our family up throughout their long friendship.
She was the only child of Les and Alvie but had a large extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins on the Hardy, McQueen and Ramage side. Louise graduated from Vernon Secondary in 1964, followed by Physical Education and Masters in Counselling Psychology degrees at UBC, before a long career in the Burnaby School system as a teacher and counsellor. Former students would often give her a hug and say something like “Ms. Pope, you saved my life, thank you”.Paul and Louise raised their children in Point Grey, Vancouver, before building their home on Kalamalka Lake in Coldstream when Louise retired in 2003.
Louise was in her “happy place” at the lake, furnishing her nest, gardening and caring for her cats. She co-founded the Society for the Protection of Kalamalka Lake and the Coldstream Ratepayers Association, local causes very dear to her heart. Louise’s family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to the Polson Extended Care Special Unit staff in Vernon, BC. Because of their efforts and compassion, Louise spent her final months in a safe and empowering environment, where she was treated with dignity and respect.
A small private celebration of life will be held at the lake house in late October. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the SPCA or OWL in Delta, causes very dear to Louise.
