In Loving Memory (1929-2023) ~
The family of Amy Emiko Godel is deeply saddened to announce her passing on April 28, 2023, at Vernon's Gateby Place at the age of 93, following a short illness, and after a long, well-lived life.
Amy was born in Vancouver but was forced into the Interior with her family in the Second World War due to the internment of Japanese-Canadians.
She settled in Vernon where she raised her four children.
She adored her grandchildren and was fortunate to have great-grandchildren to meet and love. Amy was passionate about attending kids' hockey games and going on road trips with the team. Many years were spent driving to and from hockey games.
Amy loved to cook. She was always making new recipes to try. She also loved to bake. One of her favourite nights was the New Year's family dinner celebrations with all the Japanese food - sushi, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, fish cakes and rice bags.
Other things Amy loved (in no particular order): nice cars (she'd always comment on any she passed); her cats; her weekly tabloids; her jewelry; a nice cup of tea in the afternoon; in her later years, she loved eating sweets with the magnificent goodies from Sutherland's Bakery in Enderby among her favourites; watching soap operas, and classic TV shows like Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
Amy Godel is survived by her third husband of 56 years, Stan, of Vernon; daughter Jacqui Jakeman (Phil) of Coldstream; sons Keith Richards (Susan) of Coldstream and Allan Godel (Cara) of Kelowna; sisters Mari Tokairin of Vernon and Yosh Nadrozny of Coldstream, and brother Koji Tokairin of Red Deer and their families; grandchildren Neil Bolton (Jen) of Lake Country; Kaitlyn Dhesi (Paeton), Vernon; Alexandra Richards (Robert), Burnaby; Hana and Wes Godel, Kelowna; Sam Knox (Renny), Sechelt; great-grandchildren Carter and Isaiah Bolton (Lake Country); and former son-in-law Roger Knox of Vernon.
She was predeceased by husbands Jack Hikichi and Terry Richards, daughter Shannon Knox, sisters Tak Yamamoto and Meiko Shishido, and brother Kobo Tokairin.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Gateby for their compassionate and loving care of Amy, particularly Dana the nurse, Carlos, and the staff of floor 2 North.
