July 29, 1932 - June 8, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drew Oswell on June 8, 2022, just shy of his 90th birthday.
Drew is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Pat; children Jeff (Niki), Mike (Michelle), and Carolyn (David); grandchildren, Alexandria, Britney and Derek. He is predeceased by his parents, Hope and Edric Oswell.
Drew was born in Kelowna BC, attended the Vernon Preparatory School in Coldstream where his Mother was the headmistress. He worked with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce which took him to interesting areas of BC including Ocean Falls where he met his future bride Patricia Fair.
Soon after they started a family and moved to Alert Bay BC on Cormorant Island, where Drew made significant contribution to recording and preserving the local aboriginal culture through his photography.
They moved to the Okanagan in the late 70's where both Pat and Drew worked for the hospitals in Armstrong, Vernon and Kamloops.
Drew was an avid hiker, biker, skier and great outdoorsman who loved to spend time with family and friends. He had an adventurous spirit, enjoyed exploring different cultures and travelled extensively with Pat in retirement.
At age 67 he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and paraglided off the peak of Grouse Mountain. He liked golfing with good friends, but enjoyed the 19th hole the most.
He was humble, loved learning, and made friends easily. He will be missed more than any words can express.
For all of you who knew him well, and those who knew him just a little, he would be happy to know that you would join him in one last happy hour.
Raise a glass of cheer to a life well lived!
Many thanks to the emergency responders, Dr. Burke and staff in emergency and on the 6th floor at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their care and compassion.
