September 5, 1919 – March 29, 2011
We announce the passing of Ann Colter on March 29, 2011, at Heron Grove in Vernon, BC, where she resided since July, 2007. She was predeceased in 1980 by her husband of forty years, Reg Colter, and by brothers George Boshuck (Mary Ann), and Wally Boshuck (Dorothy), as well as brothers-in-law Andy Anderson (Olga), and Harry Semenchuk (Nettie). She is survived by daughter, Valerie McHarg (Ken), and son, Murray Colter; sisters Nettie Semenchuk of Saskatoon, and Olga Anderson of Victoria, BC; grandchildren Jason McHarg, Ian McHarg, Brent Colter, and Christine Loewen; four great grandchildren, and many neices and nephews. She was loved and she will be missed.
Married in 1940, Ann and Reg Colter lived and worked in Saskatoon until 1949 when they bought the hotel in Lac Vert, Sask. They lived there for twelve years before moving back to Saskatoon where Reg worked for Labatt’s Brewery, and Ann worked for Eaton’s in the Mid-Town Plaza. When Reg retired from Labatt’s, they moved to Vernon, BC, in 1978, where Ann worked at the Bay for many years, and where she met her good friend, Darlene Chicoyne.
Ann had a great deal of energy: she loved to work, dance and entertain. She retired from The Bay in Vernon at the age of 75, but continued to volunteer many hours with the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Womens’ Auxiliary until advancing Alzheimer’s disease took its toll.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers in Cottage # 3 at Heron Grove who provided Ann with the best of care, and who warmly welcomed her visitors.
There will be no funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fischer’s Funeral Services in Salmon Arm, BC. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation in memory of Ann Colter to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at 2101 32 Street, Vernon, BC, V1T 5L2.
