January 5, 2021
Annie Teresa Monroe, affectionately known as Terry, peacefully passed away at Noric House on January 5th, 2021. She was born in Dunfanaghy, County Donegal, Ireland to Donal and Frances Ward. As a teenager, she travelled to England to receive her training as a nurse and a midwife, and upon graduation immigrated to Canada.
Her first impression was that Canada would've had great views if they could just move the trees! While working in Vancouver at St. Paul's Hospital, she met Bill Monroe when he came in as a patient. Terry and Bill settled down in Strathnaver, B.C. before moving to Quesnel where they were part of the community for over 25 years. She also lived in Courtenay for several years before making the move to Vernon to be closer to family.
Terry developed dementia in her late 80's but remained an active woman, playing any game involving a ball. She was pretty good with a puck too, and wasn't afraid to lay out a grandson or two with a hip-check.
Terry was Vernon's honouree for the Alzheimer's Walk for Memories in 2015 and joined the event with her family. She lived at Noric House since 2012 but would come home every Sunday to have good food and good laughs.
Terry will be dearly missed by her three children, John (Sue), Sheila (Gladys) and Karen (Dean); son in law Rick Praud; her sisters, Frances and Philomena as well as by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brad, Brittany, Kyle, Adam, Dallas, Kelsey, Callum, Tess, Cameron and Jonathan, Linden, Myles, Daxten, Elliot and Kaleb.
She now joins her husband, Bill; daughter, Joan; sisters, Mary and Catherine; and brothers, Danny, Patrick, Charlie and Dennis.
Following public health guidelines, a private Funeral Mass was held on January 30th, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will take place when guidelines allow. The family would like to thank the staff at Noric House for their care, Dr. Waldron and our many friends and family of heart who spent time with Terry over the years.
Cremation arrangements were made with Bethel Funeral Chapel Ltd.,
