GOBBETT, Anthony Russell


October 15, 1931 – April 18, 2014

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tony Gobbett on Friday, April 18th, 2014 at Vernon Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Tony was born in Wimbledon, England and immigrated to Canada at the age of 19, joined the RCAF and became a Flying Officer as a pilot. During that time, Tony met and married Emily. Tony and Emily had three children, all born in Saskatoon, SK, where Tony joined the city police force. The family later moved to Victoria, B.C., where Tony served as Justice of the Peace in the provincial court system. Upon retiring, Tony and Emily moved to Vernon, B.C., where they continued their love of gardening and fishing. Winters were spent enjoying their second home in the sunshine in Mesa, Arizona. Tony will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Emily, to whom he was married for 60 years; daughter Caroline (Dave) Veitch; sons Cary (Corinne) and Carl (Jacqueline); six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; brother David (Sandra), nephew Richard (Debbie) and numerous other family members. Tony is predeceased by his parents Charles and Rosalie. A Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church (3205 27th Street, Vernon, BC) on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Rita Harrison officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Tony’s memory to the North Okanagan Hospice Society (3506 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4) or the Canadian Cancer Society (#104-3402 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S1).
