Tony Hawrys passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong, BC at the age of 103.

Tony was born on December 12, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is survived by his wife, Gwen (Blurton, nee Lintott), his daughter Faith (Peter) Hudson, sons Al (Claire) and George (Carol) ; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; step-sons Bob (Sarah) Blurton, Jack (Dilly) Blurton, Rick (Patti Abbott) Blurton, step-daughter Barb (Mitch) Smith; 8 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren  and his brothers, George (Nora) in Grindrod and Alex in Victoria and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Anna (Borys); his first wife, Anne (nee March), his sister Mary (Peter) Jablonsky and brothers, Joseph, Bert, and Michael.

Tony moved with his parents and siblings to Grindrod in 1922. He worked on the farm as a young man as well as in the logging industry. In 1943 he started and operated his own trucking business, Hawrys Transfer, in Enderby until 1969.  Many a young man in Enderby got his first paying job helping Tony working as a swamper on his truck.  In 1969 he went to work in the Enderby liquor store until retiring in 1980.  During the late 1950s Tony served 2 terms on Enderby City Council. Tony married Gwen in 1990. In retirement Tony was an active member in the building of the Enderby Seniors Centre.

In retirement Tony bought a camper and travelled around British Columbia and the United States. He also made two trips to England in 1999 and 2001.  He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed gifting his lovely creations to friends and family members. He was an avid fisherman applying his angling skills in the lakes of the area.  Tony always enjoyed being around people, telling jokes and always up for a cup of coffee with his many friends.

The family give thanks to the wonderful staff at Pleasant Valley Manor for the excellent care provided in the four and half years that he resided there. There can be no doubt their care and kindness helped extend his life.

Service of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Enderby, BC. Interment will be in the Grindrod Cemetery.
