May 24, 1927 - June 19, 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Tony is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years Edna Kuhn; daughters Kathryn Aberle (Stephen) and Carol Kuhn (Cameron Robertson); grandchildren Ben Aberle-Palm (Erin), Rachel Aberle (Kyle Bottom), Zachary Velon (Alicia Reid), Emily Velon (Mathieu Berthiaume), Jennifer Robertson (Till Speier) and Devon Robertson (Jess Williams); and great grandchildren Donovan Velon and Aubrey Speier. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews in Alberta, BC and California. Tony was predeceased by his son Elwood Kuhn, his parents Frank & Magdalena Kuhn and his brothers John, Matt and Ed Kuhn. Tony immigrated to Canada from Yugoslavia in 1939. He was part of a farming family that settled in central Alberta; however, the forests of northern Alberta and BC called. Tony spent half of his working life as a logger, sawyer and sawmill owner. A move to Vernon in 1967 brought a change for the whole family and a 20-year career with Alcan. Tony and Edna were embraced by their new community and soon became involved in a wide range of social, community and charitable activities. Tony was a long-time and active member of the congregation of Trinity United Church of Vernon. He was also very involved with the Schubert Centre and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, and he was a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythias. Tony was an avid gardener and built a number of gardens over the years for himself and for others. He was also a dancer, storyteller and born entertainer. His most enduring passion was working with wood and over the years he built houses and furniture, and turned his hand to fine carving. He was working on new projects until days before he died. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, July 14th, 2 pm at Trinity United Church, 3330 Alexis Park Dr., Vernon, BC.
