Jan 9, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long time Vernon resident Art Davison on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

He was predeceased by his wife Marion in 2015 and brother Walter in 2013.

He is survived by his brother Jack (Mary) of Winnipeg, his daughter Brenda (David) Howells of Victoria, his son Guy (Lisa) of Vernon and his son Todd (Sandra) of Calgary.

He was adored by his grandchildren; Joshua (Jocelyn) Davison, Kori (Brittany) Davison, Leigh (Darryl) Jackson, Trevor (Emily) Howells, Christopher (Karli) Howells, Brandon Howells, Chelsea Howells, Brianna Davison, Connor Davison and nine great grandchildren.

The kids fondly remember visits to Polson Park for water play then ice cream at the Tastee-Freeze or the Dairy Queen. Our love of ice cream was certainly inherited, cherry sundae anyone?

Our Dad was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan to Margaret and Harry Davison. He always told us stories of his youth filled with adventures with his brothers and his love of sports.

At an early age he chose Hockey as his passion, playing for the Saskatoon Quakers then recruited by Chester Nolan to play for the Vernon Canadians in 1949. He played hockey up to the age of 75 with the old timers' team.

The hockey community will remember dad as a player, coach, referee and then ardent fan watching his grandsons play his beloved sport. Remember boys keep two hands on the stick and head up!

Dad was lucky to meet mom during those early hockey years, who could resist "twinkle toes Davison"? He became a part of the Swift family and is fondly remembered by all. Everyone who met dad were warmed by his kind nature and witty humour.

In Dad's early years he worked for the CPR as a clerk then moved to a position as the Deputy Clerk at the Municipality of Coldstream. He was a self made man teaching himself to tackle any job, truly a Mr. Fix-it. He taught us to value hard work and have pride in our accomplishments.

Dad also nurtured our love of sports, especially golf. He was a longstanding member of the Vernon golf course for 65 years.

It's hard to sum up one's life in a short passage but Dad we were so fortunate to have you in our lives, surrounding us with love and teaching us to live each day with a positive attitude, seeing the glass half full!

We will keep your love of music and dance in our hearts always. We will mist that contagious smile and wonderful bear hug!

A celebration of life will be a later date.
