Barbara passed away peacefully on January 20th at the New Vista Care Home in Burnaby after a long battle with dementia. She was comfortable and pain free and went in her sleep.
Barbara was predeceased by her younger brother Bill.
Barbara was the beloved wife to John for 50 years. She was a loving Mother to Sherry and husband John Newey, David and wife Maureen, Rene and wife Elisabeth, and Michele.
Barbara was a treasured Grandma to Justin, Sarah, Angela, Kiko, Josh, Emma, Elliot, Kipling, and Kai, and a Great Grandmother to Rylan, Ava, Kohl, Jakob, Kacey, Austin, and Micah.
Barbara had a love of old movies and enjoyed playing the piano and hosting big family dinners. They brought joy to her heart.
Barbara was a long time Vernon resident. She was a co-owner, with her husband John, of the Vernon Pizza Patio restaurant from 1977 to 1984. Barbara was an active founding member of the "Tuesday used to be Monday" bridge club that played at the Halina center for many years.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a celebration of life gathering for family and friends in Vernon at a date and place to be announced later this spring.
