February 28, 1934 - August 11, 2020
Barrie, who was known to many as "Brownie", was born on February 28th, 1934, in Port Alberni, BC and passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2020, at Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna, BC.
Barrie is predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy; his parents, Thomas Brown and Edith Darley; his two brothers, Donald and Keith Brown; and his sister, Pamela Bernier.
Barrie will be deeply missed by his daughters, Wendi Shirriff (Brian Wildenbeest) and Julie Brown (Andrew Borrell); his son Randy (Leona Dieno); his grandchildren, Aynsley, Katherine, Emma, Rylan, Brittni, and Sophie; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his many friends and extended family.
Barrie was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a dear friend to many. He enjoyed people of all ages and types, loved telling stories, and was comfortable chatting with anyone and everyone.
Barrie was a very caring man that looked out for the sick and the less fortunate. He had an absolute passion for fishing, and loved to go fishing with his buddies, his children, and his grandchildren.
His other interests included gardening (he was very proud of his dahlias, marigolds and raspberries), hunting, world history, current events, and music. Wendi and Randy both attribute their own love of music to their Dad, who enjoyed sharing his diverse musical tastes by playing records on the stereo console as they were growing up as kids in Tahsis and Gold River.
A celebration of Barrie's life has been planned for May 8th, 2021 at the Army Navy & Air Force Hall in Vernon, BC, at 1 pm. If at that time, or close to that time, the BC Provincial social distancing rules do not allow for larger gatherings, the celebration will be postponed.
We would like to thank the nurses, care staff, and administrators, at Polson Special Care and Sun Pointe Village for the incredible care they provided for our Dad while he lived in their communities. We would also like to thank Clair & Judy Hayward, Jim & Ann Stevens, Ted Rule, Fran McNaughton, and Vic Hootnick for the love, support, and friendship they shared with our Dad for many, many years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barrie's memory to the Alzheimer Society of BC. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Pleasant Valley Dignity Funeral Home. (250)542-4333. Condolences may be offered at Pleasantvalleyfh.com
