Bengt Jonsson

We regret to announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather Bengt (Ben) Lennart Jonsson at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on March 29, 2003. Born Feb. 21, 1923, in Njurunda, Sweden. Ben emigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled with his family in Vernon. He owned and operated Ben’s meat market until 1974, when he temporarily retired. Not being able to sit still, Ben worked as a meat cutter at Sheardown’s Food Liner until he opened The Kitchen-It in 1983 until officially retiring in 1990. Ben had a love of boating and fishing which he enjoyed with his family, for many hours. His wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Ben was active in various clubs; Kiwanis, Downtown Vernon Association, chairman of Scandinavian Night during the Vernon Winter Carnival He was a Mason of Miriam Lodge #20, Scottish Rite and the Vernon Shrine Club. Ben is survived by his loving wife Louise, two daughters, Karin (Greg Volsky) of Calgary, Alberta and Karin’s mother Birgit. A Masonic Funeral Service, followed by a Tea, will be held in the Chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Thursday, April 3 at 3:00 pm. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Respiratory Dept., or Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation in memory of Ben Jonsson.
