In loving memory ~
Benjamin William Holland passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Margot Holland, daughter Denise Holland, son Mark Holland, son-in-law Steven Fast, daughter-in-law Jacqueline Holland, and 5 loving grandchildren: Natasha, Eli, Olivia, Ben, and Kamryn. His work on this earth is done, and he joyously joins his parents, brothers, sisters, family, and friends that preceded him. While we're greatly saddened, we're also grateful and relieved that he can finally rest in peace.
Born in 1929, Ben was part of the pioneer Holland family that homesteaded the Mabel Lake valley beyond Shuswap Falls. He grew up on the farm, logged with draft horses, and later ran a dairy operation with his close brother Norm. Ben and Margot lived in Vernon since the 70s. Ben's final months were spent with the wonderful staff at Polson Extended Care.
Ben was a tough, strong man with a great sense of humour and an emotional underbelly. He loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and lying about it around a campfire were his favourite activities and the source of many of our fondest memories. So, the next time you find yourself camping, hunting, fishing, or even at some quiet spot in the park, close your eyes or lift your glass and smile and recall an experience you had with Ben. He can hear you just fine.
