GARROD, Bert Austin
Bert Austin Garrod passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003 in the Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, at the age of 89. Bert was born on December 24, 1913 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In his adolescence, the family moved to North Vancouver where they owned and operated Keith Road Grocery. In 1932 Bert moved to Sunnybrae with his parents where he has resided since. He was a man of many skills, working as a guide, government scaler, and as a maintenance person for the Salmar Cinema and the Provincial Government buildings in Salmon Arm. He actively pursued his love of sawmilling on his custom built mill until very recently. He enjoyed life, his family, his home and community. He was a simple man who helped to solve many world issues over regular morning coffee at the Goldpanner Restaurant at Tappen. Bert is predeceased by his first wife Opal in 1978 and his second wife Judy in 1987. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Pat (Sam) Needham of Sunnybrae, Ted (Pat) Garrod of Vernon, Wally (Lynne) Garrod of Enderby, Mike (Shirley) Garrod of Sunnybrae; grandchildren Lance (Dawn) , Lori, Vicki (Leonard), Connie (Mark), Nancy (Dennis), Wade (Carrie) and Chad (Melissa) ; great-grandchildren Tanya, Shawn, Jason, Nadine, Tyler, Krista, Joey, Shawn, Samantha, Matthew and Daniel; also one brother Lloyd, sister-in-law Eva Garrod and brother-in-law Deny Nagy all of Vancouver Island. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at
11:00 a.m., Sunnybrae Hall, with Reverend Ken Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers donations to the Sunnybrae Community Association. Arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm.
