Bertil Gerald (Bert) Carlson was born on July 15th, 1926 at Ponteix, Saskatchewan and passed away on April 20th, 2008 in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 81 years.
Bert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ailie (Aileen) Carlson of Kelowna, B.C.; his two daughters, Aline (Wilf) Ovington and Renee Carlson, of Vernon, B.C.; five grandchildren, Shaun (Marlo) Ovington, Chris Ovington, Jeff Ovington, Tyler Carlson and Nicole Carlson, all of Vernon, B.C.; one brother, Ed Carlson and two sisters, Doris Wright and Hilma Carlson, all of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Therese Aline (Terry) Carlson; his parents, Ernest & Hilma Carlson; two brothers, Eric and Art Carlson; two sisters, Ruth King and Vera Sekieta and two siblings in infancy.
Bert resided in Swift Current for a number of years prior to coming to Vernon in 1965. Most of his working career was spent with John Deere at Capital Tractor. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vernon Branch #25 and in the past few years, Kelowna Branch #26 as well as the Good Sam Kel/Vern Club. Bert loved the outdoors and was often found enjoying the great pleasures of traveling, camping, fishing, his many vehicles and of course his peanuts! He was a very social man and could strike up a conversation with anyone, in any place and at any time. He loved and adored his family and cherished the many friendships he had made during his lifetime.
Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Bert’s Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Gregg Jeske officiating. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Bert to the B.C. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Bert’s doctor, Dr. Howard Davidson and the two doctors from the Cancer Clinic, Dr. Melanie Reid and Dr. Delia Sauciuc as well as the Community Care staff for all the excellent care given to him during his illness.
