Beryl is survived by daughter Wendy (Gerald) Robinson, sons Jim (Sandi) Reed, Terry (Barb) Nerling, Barry Nerling and sister-in-law Ruth McAllister. 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents Jim and Ada McAllister and siblings Eileen Wejr, Barney, John and Terry McAllister. Mom was born in the living quarters behind the old Lumby Post Office.
Mom left Lumby to join the CWAC in WW2. Stationed in Victoria, Suffield Air Base in Alberta and Ottawa Ont. After her discharge she worked a variety of jobs but mostly in book keeping and running her own businesses. She retired at the age of 88 but still did income tax for family and friends right up to last year. Mom loved playing sports her first love was playing basketball first at school in Lumby then the women's seniors basketball club in Vernon.
Later in life she enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in variety of sports and activities. Mom was very Community minded, in her younger years she belonged to the Lumby Lend-a-Hand club. Taught swimming lessons at the Lumby pool. In Vernon she taught swimming lessons on Okanagan Lake at Sutherland Arms.
She was a driving force behind the referendum to build Kal Tire Place. She ran for Vernon City council. Treasurer of Vernon Minor Hockey. In her early 90's she raised over $70,000 for the Vernon Dialysis Unit to replace there old chairs. She was known as letter writer to the local papers in Vernon and Lumby her Motto was "To remain silent indicates acceptance".
