Gilroy, Betsy Scott (nee Bradbeer) passed away Monday February 24th, 2003 at her home in Vernon, BC. Betty, as she was known to her many friends, came to Vernon after the marriage of her youngest son in 1973. Born in Burnaby October 21st, 1919 to Reginald and Betsy Bradbeer, she was the youngest of three daughters. Betty was a kind, gentle spirit that people of all ages were attracted to. She was known as “Grandma” to so many more than her own grandchildren. She had a zest for life and the outdoors, many of her fondest memories were with her family at their cabin on Sheridan Lake. An active lady, Betty loved sports and could be found watching members of her family playing a number of sports. Her favorites were hockey and baseball. An avid seamstress, Grandma had her grandkids fully clothed. As well as sewing, Betty loved to knit and crochet. Many of her preemie bonnets were used at VJH. Betty grew up in the Burnaby area where she worked in an airplane factory during World War II. After the war Betty and her husband Wesley were married in 1946 and they raised two sons. Betty was the inaugural registrar for the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association and volunteered her time until her son Jack moved to Vernon to play hockey in 1967. She was a member of the Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Eastern Star. Betty enjoyed life and her family that adored her. She was predeceased by her husband Wesley in 1968 and her sister Laura in 1989. She is survived by her sister Lucy of New Westminster; 2 sons, Ronald (Sherry) of Surrey and Jack (Wendy) of Vernon; 5 grandchildren, Jodi, Jaime (Chris), Chad, Shannon and Charles; one great grandchild, Gemma. Betty will also be fondly remembered as “Ma” by Jordon, Ryan and David. We love you and will miss you forever…A celebration of life service will be held Friday March 7th, 2003 at 10:00 am at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating.
