Passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on January 22, 2008 at age 87 years following a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Richard (Dick) of 40 years. She also leaves behind brother, Pete (Doreen), sister Joan Latin, sister-in-law Lorraine Fraser, stepchildren Vincent (Lynn), Christine (Al), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by brother Ken in 1999. Auntie Betty played a prominent role in the lives of her nieces and nephews and she will be forever locked away in their hearts. Betty was born in Saskatchewan, the eldest of four, and the family moved to Vancouver during the depression. Betty went to work at age 13, finally settling at McMillan Blodel’s plywood plant n Burnaby and retired 30 years later. It was during this time while helping her parents and family that she met and married her husband Dick. Upon retirement they resided in Winfield and then Vernon where she spent her last few years. There will be no service. The family will gather in the spring to celebrate her wonderful life. Donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Society in memory of Betty Black.
