1918 – 2011

With great sadness we announce the death of Betty at Noric House in Vernon on July 28th, 2011 at the age of 93 years.

Betty was born in Streatham, England. She and her parents immigrated in November 1920 on a troop ship with many Canadian soldiers and other families. She was raised in Medicine Hat, graduated from Alexandra High School and went into nursing in 1937. Upon graduation from the General Hospital in 1940, she won the obstetrics gold medal. Betty met Robert Cove when she was 15 and he was 16. They were married on October 19th, 1940. Betty loved curling, bridge and golf. She was a cheerful, healthy, vibrant woman who loved life, her family and friends. She sparkled when her children and grandchildren visited.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by: her daughter, Gay Newell (Kal); her sons, Tom (Sherry) and Richard (Lisa); former daughter-in-law, Brigitte Cove; grandchildren: Blair, Tonia, April, Tammy, Christie, and Alana; eleven great grandchildren, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in 1996; her brother, Jimmy and her sister, Irene.

The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Screen and to the staff at Noric House for the care and kindness shown to their mother.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Betty may do so to the Parkinson Society of BC, 600-890 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9.
