Børge Buch Nielsen passed away on August 27th, 2012 in Vernon, BC at the age of 81 years.
Borge was born on March 23, 1931 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He grew up working in the family bakery, but at the age of 20, after a short time in the army, he began a new adventure and immigrated to Canada, where he became known as ‘Bob’. He found work as a logger with Baird Brothers in Enderby. He was soon joined by his childhood sweetheart, Inge-Lise and they were married on September 1st, 1954. Future jobs would find him at Vernon Box & Pine but he eventually returned to his roots as a baker, becoming the bakery foreman at Super Valu at Polson Mall.
Bob was a self-taught handyman and built many playhouses and kitchens over the years. He loved to go fishing at Pinaus Lake, spending time in the RV on Vancouver Island and in later years he enjoyed casino bus trips with good friends. Bob and Inga were members of the Scandinavian Club and enjoyed many years of Danish folk dancing. He was well known for his famous barbecue chicken. Bob was a hard worker but loved spending time with his family, playing canasta and going for many hot dog roasts at Ellison Park. He loved his family so much and would do anything for them, always finding new ways to make them laugh. He was the most loving husband, and the very best Daddy and ‘Morfar’.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Kirsten, and his older brother Fridtjoff. His memory will carry on with Inga, his wife and soulmate of almost 58 years, his daughter Doris (Vince) Nickel and three grandsons, Jordan, Jason and Joshua, all of Coldstream, BC.
At Bob’s request there will be a celebration of life for family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
