Brenda Lee Winquist
January 12th , 1965 – August 17th, 2013
It is with heavy hearts and tremendous regret that we announce the passing of Brenda Lee Winquist. She passed away all too soon at the age of 48 on Saturday, August 17th in Vernon, BC. She will be deeply missed by her only child Brita; her life partner Ben; her father Roland; her two sisters Vicki and Debora; and her four nieces: Shonna, Angela, Nicki, and Amanda; and one nephew, Ryan; as well as her closest friends: Debbie, Wayne, Marty, and Jonathan. She was predeceased by her mother, Shirley, whom she deeply loved and missed.
Brenda was born in New Westminster, BC as the youngest in a family of five. She grew up with a passion for art, reading, dancing, writing and of course, animals, which derived from her intimate connection with horses and her work as a veterinary technician. She later worked as a facilitator with a computer and business training school, where she met her partner Benji. They continued to live life together in Vernon with Brenda’s daughter, Brita. Brenda enjoyed being the navigator of all games, watching films, going for long drives, fine dining, and spending time with her many cats.
Brenda was always prepared to make everyone laugh with her sharp humor and outrageous imagination. She loved any and all things fantasy, especially her dragons. She always had a very strong relationship with her daughter, Brita, providing not only a motherly influence but also that of a best friend or confidant. She spoke often of crafting jewelry, and continually dreamed of traveling the world. She so strongly wished to explore the Mayan ruins, ride all the roller coasters at Six Flags and visit India and enjoy their many spices.
She was a huge dreamer and never lost grip of her passions. Her personality was vibrant, her words wise and her heart massive. She was a beautiful woman to many people and her presence will be forever missed, not only by those close to her, but from afar as well. The friends she made around the globe, the hearts and souls and minds that she touched, probed, or explored. She always took the time to get to know each and everyone she became friends with.
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so on Saturday, August 31st, 2013, 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Brenda’s Celebration of Life will take place at her daughter’s residence at 4600 – 20th Street, Vernon, BC, V1T 4E5. It will be an open event where anyone and everyone who wishes to say goodbye may do so. We ask that people bring food in lieu of flowers to help cater the event.
