Brian passed away peacefully on the morning of May 2, 2018 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary following a short battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Armstrong (Chuck O'Donnell), and his birth father, Ralph Arloe Armstrong. He is survived by his step-brother Bud Armstrong (Ontario area), cousins Laurie MacKenzie (Todd) of Taber Alberta, Dave Stalker (Charlene), Lois Genge (George), Greg Genge (Heather), all of Calgary; Chris Genge of Abbotsford, Colin Genge of Vancouver; Sandra Stalker (Dwight) of Wiesbaden, Germany; and Ron LaDuke (Heather), Dennis LaDuke (Joanne), Rose Hanna, Sherry Frazer, David Popilchak all from the Vernon area and Uncle Herman Popilchak of Taber Alberta.
Though Brian spent the last few years in Calgary, he was a long-time resident of the Vernon area and will be best remembered as the owner/operator of Really Small Vernon Press, as a book designer, writer, and for his long involvement with the local writing community. Brian was always friendly and the first to step forward if anyone needed help. Wherever Brian finds himself in a possible afterlife, we're sure he's already taking notes on how the place can be better operated. Our advice is that they'd be wise to listen.
Brian will be sorely missed by his old lunchtime companions, Ron Smith, Jim Dennison, Jake Block, Greg Simison and Kery Haner. Also, sadly missed by his Grand Forks based friends Deb and Ron Lauzon. Save us seats at the table, buddy.
At Brian's request there will be no formal funeral service. Interment to take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Vernon, B.C. Brian's ashes will be interred May 23, 2018 along with his mother's ashes under the epigraph 'Closer Than Ever.'
