Calvin Rowan


After a short courageous battle with cancer Calvin “Cal” Alexander Rowan passed away on Monday, May 29th, 2006 at the age of 64 years. He is survived by his loving wife Joan of thirty one years, two sons, Chris of Vernon, and Scott of New York City, his mother Mary Rowan of Edson, AB, his brother, Burton (Susan) of Jasper, AB, and many dear friends. Cal was predeceased by his father John in 1991. He was born in Kapuskasing, ON. At an early age, he moved to Edson, AB. After finishing school there, Calvin went to work with the Canadian National Railway in Jasper, AB. In 1992, he transferred through CN to Vernon, BC and worked for the Kelowna Pacific Railway. Calvin retired after thirty seven years of railway service. Calvin was a devoted family man and a keen sports enthusiast; he was a bantam hockey coach, a hockey referee, a baseball umpire, and an avid sports memorabilia collector. He

loved attending the Edson athletic reunions. After retiring he became an excellent cook while hosting numerous foreign students. Calvin enjoyed taking walks with the family dog and spending time with friends. A celebration of Cal’s life will be held on Sunday, June 4th, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with the Reverend Ed Millin officiating. Cremation. A reception will follow in the Pleasant Valley Tea room. Those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Cal may do so to the Cancer Society of your choice.
