December 3, 1946 - August 20, 2019
With her family by her side, we said a loving goodbye to Carol at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on August 20, 2019.
Carol received the diagnosis of a very aggressive cancer on July 24, 2019 and it was her strong will and love for her family that gave her great strength in her short but admirable battle against cancer.
Carol was a well loved and respected nurse, her leadership and compassion for her patients and co-workers made her a name that will never be forgotten at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB where she worked 35+ years.
Carol was a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, cousin and friend to many. Her energy and sense of adventure was contagious to everyone around her. She travelled to many destinations over the years, taking family or friends, anyone she could convince to embark on the next big adventure with her.
Carol loved sports, whether it be watching her kids play them over the years, watching her grandkids play them or playing them herself. Sitting still was just not an option for Carol, there was always some fun waiting to be had somewhere. She was very well known in the golf and curling communities both in Grande Prairie, AB and Vernon, BC.
Carol was a selfless loving wife and mother, she treasured her time with family and friends. As a grandma, she loved cuddling with her grandkids, reading them stories, buying them treats and watching them thrive and grow. If her wish to stay with us longer, so she could watch her grandkids grow up a few more years had been granted she would be here today, spoiling them rotten! There was nothing quite like grandma's love.
Carol is dearly missed by her husband Carl Hayes, children Byron Hayes, Courtney (TJ) McKenzie, her 3 grandsons Dexon, Cohen & Nash McKenzie, her siblings Garry Eggli, Chuck Eggli, Debbie (Bruce) Reinhart and her many nieces and nephews. Carol had previously said goodbye to her beloved parents Dolphe & Mable Eggli.
We express our deep gratitude to Dr. Long, Dr. Humphries, Dr. Hardy, medical student Taryn and all the nursing staff on 2 East/ West of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the compassion, care and support.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest memorial donations be made to BC Children's Hospital, Vancouver's Ronald McDonald House or Diabetes Canada. All of which were causes very dear to Carol's heart.
We will be holding a celebration of Life in Carol's memory on Sunday October 13, 2019 at PaddleWheel Hall, 7813 Okanagan Landing Rd, Vernon, BC from 1pm to 4 pm for anyone wishing to join.
