July 5, 1936 - March 4, 2022
We are saddened to share the loss of Carol Irene Johnson Woiden on March 4th, 2022. She is fondly remembered by Chester, her husband of 64 years, sons Kelly (Darlene), Cam (Lynn), and daughters Tracey (Mark) and Sara (Brian). She is further survived by six beloved grandchildren, Denée (Brandon), Leigh-Ann, Devon (Roxanna), Kaylin (Brett), Parker (Kayla), Makenna (Logan) as well as her brother Arlo and sister Opal.
Carol was born on July 5th, 1936, in Hay Lakes, Alberta. She was a naturally gifted musician from a young age, playing piano and singing until the time of her passing. Carol attended Augustana College in Camrose, Alberta, prior to marrying Chester in 1958 and starting a family. Employment opportunities took the family around Alberta and British Columbia, finally settling in Vernon in 1968.
She will be remembered as a bright, determined and hardworking woman, a great example for her daughters. In addition to supporting the family's floor laying business as office manager, she worked alongside Chester as a labourer for decades. Carol was also the manager of Chester's band, The Evergreen Drifters, for over 40 years of "music for dancing." She was known for her incredible culinary skills that spoiled Chester all these years and have (hopefully) rubbed off a bit on her children. Carol was also an avid community volunteer, technology lover (she texted like a teenager), a beautiful quilter, and trusted advisor to her children on a great many topics. Amongst her fondest memories were her trip to Sweden in 2003 to meet family as well as her golden wedding anniversary vow renewal aboard The Grand Princess in 2008.
A Service of Remembrance will be livestreamed at vernonfuneralhome.com on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Carol's name be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Blood Services by donating blood. Carol's family would like to thank the staff and physicians of VJH for their kind care over the past year, during what she joked was her "tour of Vernon Jubilee Hospital."
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home,
