December 7, 1951 – September 19, 2019
Carolyn was born on December 7th, 1951 in Horsham, West Sussex, England and passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2019 in Vernon, B.C. from complications of her horrendous accident in Alaska two years ago. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Barry, her father Geoffrey, her two sisters and their families. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Standen.
At the age of 16, Carolyn’s passion for nursing began. After training in England she decided to go travelling and took on several Nanny posts in London, Switzerland and Toronto. Carolyn just loved the life in Canada and decided to settle here. She began nursing in Vancouver, then Vancouver Island and eventually moved to Vernon where she was a nurse for over 30 years at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Carolyn had a love of the great outdoors and enjoyed hiking and cross country skiing. She loved all animals, but most of all she loved taking care of people which she did tirelessly throughout her life.
Carolyn’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the doctors and staff in the ICU, her many friends and personal support workers who visited and supported her and her family over the last two years. The home and hospital visits by Dr. Ken Perrier were very appreciated and provided a great comfort to our family.
In respecting Carolyn’s wishes, she was cremated and a As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Carolyn to the charity of their choice.
