September 30, 1930 - July 22, 2018
Born in Prince Rupert to Catherine and Henry Giegerich, Betty grew up in mining camps across Canada (Chibougamau, Kimberley, and Yellowknife) where her father was a mining engineer and her mother was the educator of the mine's children.

She moved to Trail with her family and there she met her husband, Douglas Wetmore, helping him start his law practice and raising their family. When Doug was appointed a judge in 1975, Betty took the opportunity to finish her BFA at UBC, graduating at age 49.

She had many shows of her paintings in Vancouver, Vernon, and the Kootenays, using 'Catherine' as her artist's name which then became her known name. Catherine was an energetic leader and organizer, generously involved in community events, especially in her church communities. Most important in her life though was her family.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Doug, and her sister Peggy, Catherine is survived by her twin, Hank, and brother Mike, and Doug's sister Madelyn (Brian). Lovingly remembered by her children Mara (Tom), Alison (Ian), and Doug (Jean); grandchildren Jesson (Denise), Bronwen (Carl), Erin, Clare (Steve), Catharine (Lachlan), and Jordan (Mel); great grandchildren Oscar, Jamie, Sadie, and Lili; plus many nieces, nephews and relatives in BC, Ontario, Australia, and Germany; and many close and valued friends, especially her life-long best friend, Doris.

In 2014, Catherine moved to Salmon Arm to Lakeside Manor and last year to Piccadilly Care Centre. She always said how thankful she was for her wonderful care. The family would like to thank all her care-aides and nurses, and special thanks to Dr. Warren Bell for his care and friendship and to the UC Pastoral Care team. Catherine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Doug, in the Rossland-Trail cemetery. A website paying tribute to Catherine's art may be found at: www.catherinewetmore.art
